Women in Tech: A Look Back at the UPENDO Labs Webinar

UPENDO Labs hosted a new webinar on a critical topic: the role of women in the tech industry.

During this online session, participants discussed the challenges women still face today in science and technology fields, as well as the many opportunities available to young women who wish to pursue careers in these areas.

The session began with a testimonial from Voufo Kana, an engineer working in a predominantly male team. She shared her personal experience and explained how self-confidence plays a crucial role for young women who wish to pursue careers in technology.

To illustrate her point, she shared the inspiring story told in the film “Hidden Figures”,  which chronicles the journey of three African-American female mathematicians who contributed to NASA’s space missions. Their work made it possible to send the first astronauts into space, despite the many obstacles they faced.

This discussion served as a reminder of an important message:
talent has no gender, and women have always played a major role in scientific and technological advancements.

The webinar also aligned with UPENDO Labs’ mission: to encourage the next generation to explore technology, foster their curiosity, and build confidence in their abilities.

The next step will be the workshop on March 22, during which children will have the opportunity to learn about programming and video game creation using Scratch and mBlock.
