UPENDO Salon 2026: Rethinking Strategic Africa Between Raw Materials and AI
The fifth edition of UPENDO Salon, held on April 18 at the Nadelfabrik in Aachen, left a lasting impression with its insightful discussions. Under the theme “Strategic Africa: From Natural Resources to Tomorrow’s Technologies”, more than 100 guests and 8 partners gathered to outline a vision of Africa as an active agent in its own transformation.
A Debate at the Heart of Global Issues
The highlight of the day was a discussion on Africa’s strategy regarding raw materials. Moving beyond traditional frameworks, speakers explored how Africa can regain control of its resources to use them as a lever for sustainable industrialization. The issue of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was also central. How can AI optimize mining operations? What are the challenges of digital sovereignty for the continent? Experts and participants discussed concrete solutions to prepare Africa for the ongoing technological revolutions, so that it is no longer merely a consumer but a creator of solutions.
Training Tomorrow’s Leaders
Because this strategy cannot be built without the youth, 12 of the 25 children in attendance took their first steps into the digital world at UPENDO Labs. By learning programming and robotics, these young talents are preparing today to master the tools that will shape the industry of tomorrow.
